Winter Essentials
The ten pieces that form the foundation of a considered cold-weather wardrobe.
Winter dressing is an exercise in layering — not just for warmth, but for texture, proportion, and the quiet satisfaction of putting together something that works. Here are the ten pieces we consider essential.
The Foundation
Start with a heavyweight crew-neck sweatshirt in loopback cotton. Ours is cut slightly oversized through the body with a snug rib at the hem and cuffs — it layers under a coat without bunching and looks right on its own. The cotton is brushed on the inside for a soft hand feel that improves with every wash.
Add a pair of wide-leg wool trousers with a single pleat. The silhouette is generous but not sloppy, falling straight from the hip to a clean break at the shoe. We use a mid-weight Italian wool that holds its drape and doesn't wrinkle after a day of sitting.
“The best wardrobe is one where everything works with everything else. No orphan pieces, no outfits — just clothes that belong together.”
The Layers
A chunky half-zip in Shetland wool. A quilted vest in recycled nylon. A cashmere scarf in a colour you'll never tire of. These are the pieces that turn a shirt and trousers into something that handles whatever the day brings.
The goal isn't a capsule wardrobe — it's a working wardrobe. Pieces that earn their keep, that you fix when they break, that get better as they age. Winter is the season that tests your clothes most honestly. Choose well.
